rabbit swollen neck

Question
Hi there, thanks very much for reading my question.

First of all, I live in China and vets here have no experience in rabbits and that's why I am trying to look for help on the internet.

My rabbit is roughly 15 months old because I rescued him/her a year ago. last month, the bottom of his neck started to have some swollen skin (not excatly swollen because I can't feel liquid or solid things inside, but his neck skin becomes very very loose and his fur can almost touch the ground.

He acts normally and eats ok. When I squeeze the loose skin, he doesnt seem to feel any pain. Is this a serious problem? If so, how can I treat it?

I also have another rabbit, and I think his digestive system is weaker than my other rabbit. His poo is much smaller in size and sometimes it is wet and sticks to his fur, however the symptom goes away in a few days but will come back next month.

I seperate the rabbits in 2 rooms and I feed hay, pallets, fresh veggie and fruits to them. Am I doing anything wrong or should I do anything else to keep them healthy?

Thanks very much

Answer
Dear Victor,

The first bunny sounds as if he has developed a dewlap.  This is a flap of skin that hangs down under the chin in some individuals.  It's more common in females and large breeds, but can occur in both male and small rabbits.  If you attach a picture to an AllExperts question, I can confirm this for you.  But it's not a health concern.

For tips on improving the other bunny's GI health, please read this, regarding healthy diet:

and this, regarding some of the problems that can cause intermittent GI slowdown and other GI problems:

And for all the best, most accurate information about proper rabbit care and health, go to:

There's a wealth of articles and information, and you might even be able to find a rabbit vet with the international listings linked here:

I hope this helps.  Good luck!
