Hello.. My rabbit

Question
QUESTION: My rabbit's toenail is bent..
It'snot really bleeding, but it's like bent, what should i do?

ANSWER: Hi,

is it the toenail or the toe?  Is he not putting weight on his foot, and holding it up?

If it is the toenail, what you should do is get your styptic gel/powder, trim the nail with your rabbit nail trimmer (like a small dog loop nail trimmer) to give the nail a proper edge, and then apply the styptic powder/gel on it right away to stop the bleeding.

If it is the toe itself, he may have broken the toe.  This is a vet visit thing.

but it seems like he doesn't really know ti's broken...

Answer
Hi,

if it has stopped bleeding, just keep watching it the next few days.  If he starts favoring the foot or limping there may be an infection there.  If he starts getting weak or having problems he may have a blood infection.  If he starts not being normally excited for his food, that's an issue that he may not be feeling well.  Any of this happens, get him in to a good rabbit vet right away and tell them what happened with his nail and explain you believe it is an infection of some kind.

Most likely he will be just fine, the nail appears to have begun healing.  You need to trim their nails every 6-8 weeks otherwise they get too long and will catch and snag on things, and that's when they break and have problems like you are seeing.  Your good rabbit vet can show you how to trim them safely.

You must have a good rabbit vet and take him in at least once a year for an annual exam. If you don't have a good rabbit vet yet (not all vets are), go to:

and find a House Rabbit Society recommended vet near you.
