Question
Hi, I have a bunny (Caesar) who will be 13 the end of next month.  Two and one-half years ago a vet told me he had "six weeks to six months to live. It's all cumulative."  He told me this because I took him in for cataracts and to see if anything could be done.  He squeezed Caesar's kidneys and said he had kidney stones too.  Caesar had orange urine for a couple of weeks after that from the squeezing (in my opinion) and seemed traumatized by the vet visit. He hasn't been to the vet since and he is too old to go through that again.  I wondered if you could help me with a couple of questions I have about him.  He now seems to need something to rest his head on.  He doesn't seem to be in pain, but tips over a lot and sometimes needs help getting upright again.  I think his front legs are wearing out.  I wondered if there was anything I could do for him.  Another question is how will I know if he is too miserable to go on?  If he can't stand up on his own anymore?  I love him so.  Thank you for any answer.

Answer
hi betty -all rabbits are classed as adults at 5 months old and so you have a very old tired rabbit.
if he needs help as you say i would suggest having him put to sleep it sounds as though he has head tilt and arthritus which is affecting his legs .
as much as you love him i feel he has had a good life and now needs peace.
the oldest rabbit i knew before yours died at 11 yrs old.
