Ivermectin or selamectin

Question
Will you explain what dosage to give a rabbit that weights in at 4lbs and 8lbs?  I know I can purchase the Ivermectin locally but not sure about the selamectin.  I and currently treating one rabbit with Revolution.  I am supposed to take in two more rabbits that have walking dandruff.  I won't be able to do any clean up because I'd have to strip down my whole bedroom and I just can't do that.  Hopefully the cats won't get it.  I notice there was not a response to a question up above.
Thanks, Karan

Answer
Dear Karan,

We use Revolution (selamectin) pretty much exclusively now.  It lasts longer, and is more cost effective than ivermectin, though you need a prescription for the former.

The dose for selamectin is 6mg/kg once every 2-3 weeks, applied to the back of the neck/shoulder area.  If you're using the puppy/kitten/cat strength (60mg/ml), then that's 0.1cc (a cc is the same as a milliliter) per kg.  If you're using the more concentrated big dog formula (120mg/ml), then the dose is 0.05cc/kg over the same time interval. (Note:  1kg = 2.2 lbs)

It's been so long since we used ivermectin for our bunnies that I hardly remember the dose we used.  But published sources go about as high as 2mg/kg once every 10-14 days.  It is usually injected subQ (it stings!), but some have used it topically.

I'd recommend getting your bunnies to a good rabbit vet:

for in person diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

I hope this helps.
