Is Pyriproxyfen Safe For Rabbits

22 9:50:05

Question
Hi Dr. Dana,

Bayer is phasing out Advantage9 (for kittens) and is replacing it with Advantage II which has pyriproxyfen (to kill the flea eggs) added to the imidacloprid.
Do you know if pyriproxyfen is safe to use on rabbits?
   thanks,
      and yerz,
         Ellen

Answer
Dear Ellen,

I know people who have used Advantage II on rabbits without problems.  I have not treated my own rabbits with it, so cannot really say for sure whether it has any potential problematic side effects.

For my own rabbits, we use Revolution (selamectin), which kills both fleas and mites.

Hope this helps.

Dana
