Question
My  pregnant female rabbit is 5 days from her due date! I put some hay in her cage so she could make a nest but she stuffed some in her mouth. I finnally pulled it out after a few hours? Why did she do that?...is it normal!

Answer
Hi Todd,

for a pregnant female, doing the nestbuilding thing, yeah, it's normal.  She may not exactly be ready, she may not exactly know where she wants the nest, or how to go about putting it all together.  She'll figure it out.  Just make sure she has enough room.  She needs extra room, so that she can rest away from the nesting area.  If she's in a smaller cage than a 2' x 4' area, you may, before she gets settled, get a bigger cage and put her in there so that she can get away from the nest area.  Sometimes if things are too cramped problems can occur.  Rabbits stay away from their young most of the time to avoid drawing attention to them (they are helpless).  They need extra space to rest away from the nest.
