Over weight and Clipping toe nails???

Question
I really have a two part question. One is what is the correct/best kind of food for your pot bellied pig? and 2nd is Do you need to get their toe nails trimmed or put something out to trim them for them?

Answer
The best diet is a pot-bellied pig food and fresh greens. Mazuri, Mana-Pro, Heartland, Champion, and Ross Mill Farms all make foods for pot-bellied pigs. Some make foods specifically for youngsters, elderly pigs, or active adults.

Pigs enjoy snacks of all sorts. The best snacks are leafy greens. These are low in calories and high in fiber. Root vegetables are good, too. Some pigs love to graze, this is fine as long as the grass was not treated with pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers. Raisins are good training treats. Many pigs do not like raw cabbage or broccoli.

Most pigs will need their hoofs trimmed. Active pigs that walk over rough surfaces like textured concrete or pavement may not need a trim.

Pigs hoofs should be on the short side. If the pig is used to being trimmed, a quick snip or two is no problem.

Trimming a pig who doesn't want to be trimmed is a little harder. Teaching the pig to tolerate trimming is ideal, but it make take a long time.

Restraining the pig works, but it requires a strong person who knows how to hold the pig immobile. And earplugs! It's stressful for the pig, but over quickly with no after effects.

A vet can put the pig under for hoof trimming. This is expensive and stressful for the pig. It takes hours to recover from the anesthesia, and there is always a risk that something will go wrong.
