peeing in crate

Question
I recently asked you about my 5 month old Penelopig peeing and pooping on command outside, but going anytime, anywhere inside.  Your reply about her need to be spayed came on the day she was being spayed!.You were right, the indiscriminent peeing stopped! However she will still pee in her crate. The only time she is crated for an extended period of time is at night..As soon as she hears us getting out of bed she wakes up and pees before we can get to her. If she is crated during the day, it is only after she was outside and did her duty, but even when crated for less than an hour we will come back and find she peed. Thanks in advance for your help..ps the crate is NOT large enough for her to feel that there is room for sleep AND pee.

Answer
Hello,
I think that Penelopig is probably punishing you for putting her in her crate.
For my house pigs I use a puppy exercise pen for their containment when I can't keep an eye on them or need to leave them unattended.
I start them in this pen as piglets so it isn't a punishment but just a nice place to be.
I I keep the feed dish, and litter box as well as bedding in the pen so they are OK with being in there.  If you have a larger pig you can
attach the pen to a wall and hold down the sides with milk jugs that hang on the side full of water.
Give this a try.  She can still go out side to potty but shouldn't feel punished by being put in such a small space.
If you would like a picture of how I set up my pig housing you can write to my personal e-mail address at patty012001@yahoo.com.
Good luck to you,
Patty
