Question
What can I feed a baby potbelly about 6 or 7 weeks old while I wait for delivery of pig chow or starter food.  Cannot find a retailer.

Answer
A 6 or 7 week old baby should be old enough to nibble on solid foods. At this stage, baby usually still nurses off Mom, but also samples the foods she eats, too.

Goat milk is better for babies than cows milk, but at this age, cows milk mixed with human baby formula would probably suffice. Rice cereal, oatmeal, and similar foods provide fiber and nutrients, and will help the baby feel "full". Round out babys diet by offering cooked and raw fruits and vegetables of all sorts.

It can be tricky to figure out how much to feed a pig. A baby this age should be gaining 1 lb per week. Many people prefer to let babies "free feed", or eat as much as they want, until they are 4 months old or so. I'd start with the free feed method, especially if your baby weighs under 6 lb. Monitor babys weight, and adjust the quantity as necessary.

Also, continue to feed baby fruits and veggies even after baby is eating pellets. They provide fiber and help piggy feel full.
