Question
I have a baby mini pop belly pig, he is a little over a mouth old and i need to know if and how to give him a bath. If he is to young then how old does he have to be? He is a indoor pig and he goes every where with me and my husband. I could use any info that you could give me because this is our first pig. Thank you vary much

Answer
Pigs don't really need baths unless they get dirty. When that happens, a sponge bath is easiest. Keep him warm until he's dried off, baby pigs get chilled quickly.

Teaching him to let you wipe his feet off is a practical way to keep him, and your floors, clean. Start now, even if he is inside all the time. Two or three times a day, direct him to a mat in front of the door he is most likely to use when he goes in and out. Have him stand still while you wipe each foot. Repeat this process when he goes outside and comes back in. Do this every day for a month or so. After that, do it every time he goes out and comes in, or at least once a day, for another month or so. At this point he should be used to the process, so continue to do it whenever he goes outside and comes back in, or at least once a week.

I highly recommend the book Pot-Bellied Pig Behavior and Training by Priscilla Valentine. Pris really understands how pigs think and why they do the things they do. the website www.farec.org has lots of information and links. Another excellent resource are the Yahoo pig groups. I recommend PigInfoandChat. There's lots of experienced pig people who love to talk pig.
