Hi Sandra!

Is 3/8" bar spacing for female lab mice a little risky? Would it be best to fix wire mesh onto the cage?

If the mice are tiny babies, I would use an aquarium for a short time, or yes, the mesh, but I have always used cages with 1/2 bar spacing just fine. An adult mouse, even a petite female, cannot get through , or at least non of mine have. I did not keep mice long as pets, though, so have limited experience as far as what kind of escape artitsts they are.
