Hi Laura,

How old is your grey?
was he hand fed?
how much do you know about greys?
you need to know this grey will live to be 50-75 years old.
please read as much as you can about feeding showering and their habits.
will he let you pick him up?
the step up on to the hand.
email me back so I can get a better feel for the bird age will help me alot.

hear from you soon Barbara

hi barbara
he's about 20 wks old he was raised with his parents and seperated at 14 wks as of yet we are unable to pick him up we are able to get close to him but not touch him we reward him with monkey nuts when he's good he's just started to take them from our hands and has stopped growling as much when we go to his cage only seems to be grumpy when he's tired he's my first parrot and i've read a book by annette de saulles which is a pet owners guide to the african grey and have done searchs on the net which is how i found you any advice you can give me would be very much appreciated

thank you laura

and plus my computer died so I'm useing a friends.

are you afraid of beening bite?
how do you go about make him step up?
you have to be frim with him. if you show your fear he knows it.
there are so many books I have one at home that might help you. write back to me and I will let you the names of the books that help us. I would give them to you know but I'm not at home. I will check back tomorrow night

Answer
Hi laura,

just keep working with the step up, it takes time, they have a mind of their own.

greys can be picky ,try giving him one fruit like apples small pieces.  next try bananas small pieces. our grey are very picky they like apples and bananas, melons.
and they love cook oatmeal for breakfast with raisin and nuts, they love eating the same things we have.
like a kid ,but mom your dinner looks better. some times if they watch you eat it ,and make over it like its the best thing in the world, they'll want to try.
remember you are replaceing their mother.
just play around with things and see what happens.
we learn by trying,if one thing doesn't work we try something else.
take care Barbara
hope to hear from you some
