5 YR OLD MALE SENEGAL

Hi,

I just adopted the above bird and have a question about taming down my Senegal.  Guenther was a breeder male until he lost his mate due to being egg-bound.  I do not have accurate history on him.  I was wondering if it is possible to tame down an older bird that doesn't appear to have been handled much and what your advice may be to attempt handling him.

Hi, Kim,

The chances of taming down a breeder bird of his age are slim to none, but it might be able to be done with much patience and time, on both your parts.  In addition, you'll have to be knowledgeable/experienced enough in parrot behavior in general in order to accomplish this.

I would have to have much information on this bird's behavior, etc., in order to help you further.  The more information you can provide, the better.

I'm going to be offline for about a week and a half due to business travel.  There are other experts on this site that can help you or you can wait until I return.  In particular is a lady, I forget her name, that specializes in parrot behavior.
