Question
WOW! Finnaliy I find someone who can possibly help me...?

I have a baby cockatiel 2 months old, his eye was scratched in the nest by the mother bird and it is red,and crusty (with yellow puss/discharge) I am going to the vet soon but what could I do to comfort him or possibly cure this without the vet. Its really bad but I have been bathing it with tea bags and I thought of using (human antibiotic eye drops) but is this a good idea?

Thanks - and keeping answering questions about bird health. We bird owners really need someone like you. Thanks again

Joey

Answer
I'm so glad you asked first! Please, no human meds for a bird unless specifically advised by a vet. Especially not for eyes - terribly easy to suffer damage.

Plain, warm water is your best option, although the tea bags are probably not harmful.  The scratch sounds like it infected and an antibiotic administered orally may be the option your vet chooses - depending on whether or not it's spread (it can spread internally, so have it seen very soon).
