Sun Conure... MAYDAY!

Question
QUESTION: Hi, last monday i bought a sun conure from a very well know and established bird breeder/store. when i got home the bird was a little shaken however very approachable and loving. He already had a GREAT concept of step up and didn't mind bing pet. I took him to the vet this past saturday for a check up and the vet said he looked perfectly healthy and he was also amazed at how well behaved he was and how well his exam went. they only thing is that he had an obsession with shoulders! which we are trying to fix. the 5 days prior to the vet visit he had never chirped loud or scheeched. he even practiced saying hello. Basiclly i'm trying to tell you he was a very lovable and adorable bird and we were bonding very well. yesterday was the first time the Kuzco would not step up and avoided me altogather. I didn't think anything of it and left him alone... it then happened all day and when i uncovered his cage this morning it continued. he's been loud... which i expected so i'm not really concerned about the noise... but it sounds like he's in pain everytime i try to touch him and he no longer wants to be around me but then when i leave he starts sreaming again. I know that Indian Ringnecks go through a Bluffing stage but i didn't know if that was true for all birds. he's been constantly flapping his wings at me and loweres his head and wants to nothing to do with me besides EAT his food when i come around. I don't know what to do. we only knew eachother for a week but i miss my friend.

p.s. he doesn't try to bite the wing flappings just get heavier. i know that's a warning sign. why does he hate me all of a sudden? I even tried peek a boo

ANSWER: Hello Clifford and thank you for your post.
I am happy that your new friend got a clean bill of health.  The problems that you are having with him could be due to hormones.  It is breeding season, and all of my birds are very hormonal, including the ones that are too young to breed.
Don't take this as he hares you, his body is just going through changes, and this will pass in a couple of weeks.
Conures do have a scream that makes them sound like they're in pain, and he's also adjusting to his new enviroment.
Just keep talking to him and trying to interact with him.  I know how you feel, I miss my normally loveable too, but I know that they'll be back to teir old selves soon.

Good luck and God Bless.
Dianna

QUESTION: is it normal for excessive head bobbing and a wing  patting agains the body (twitch like) for sun conures? some people say it means come here other say it means stay away. it's just that Kuzco is always bobbing his head. which i know means he's hungry but he even does it after eating?

Answer
Hello again Clifford.
I do believe that it means that he wants your attention.  I had a Nandy Conure that did the same thing, then she would escape from her cage and track me down to sit on my shoulder, and she would sit there contentedly for hours.
My Amazon and my cockatiels do this when they want me to play with them.

God Bless.
