A friend for my rattie

Question
A while back i had acquired a small rat from a friend who had originally bought it to feed to her snake.
I knew ratties need friends so i went out and got another small rat to be friends with it. I tried to introduce and have "play dates" in a neutral environment, however the original rat  never warmed up to the second one. (both male)
Unfortunately the original rat passed away recently and I wanted to try again to get new friends for my second rat.
My current rat is an adult male who has not had companions for quite some time, however is extremely friendly and did want to be friends with the original rat and gets along swell with my cat lol.
What age ratties should i get, and are there any other tips for introducing them that you can give me?

Answer
Your best bet for getting another rat is to get one that is a younger rat. Not one that the other can eat, but you dont want one that is old and not wanting to warm up. Try to get one that seems more playful and ask the owner of the pet store about which he suggest. Males do better then females and are more playful.

I think the best thing is when a rat likes the other animals. My pet rat use to always play with the cats and dogs. It was funny to see them together.

Anyhow, another thing that you might not know is that rats love to play in water. A small litter box with water and even some rocks is always  fun thing for them to do. Just remember that each will need their own cage at first and do as you did before with play dates and time together. They each need their own house when you do put them in the same cage and a bigger cage. It is normal for rats to tango as long as there is no blood shed they are doing okay.

I hope that this helps you. Please feel free to ask more questions and Thank you for using all experts. Enjoy your Thanksgiving.
