Question
I have a baby mouse that my daughter got from a pet store yesterday. He is very small but did have fur, his eyes are open and he seems to be eaten on his own. Today when I got home he did not seem to be doing as well as he did yesterday. He is not very active and shaking. I put him in a hand towel to warm him up. What should I do? He is very small, about half the size of my thumb.
Thank you,
Michelle

Answer
Well what is mainly important is that he stay warm. If that means placing the cage nearer a heating source or far away from the air conditioner. You can use a heating pad (under) the cage to warm the cage but so he cannot chew it. Another option is a water bottle warm in his cage.

If he is not eating try to give him some yogurt or milk from a dropper. See if he will take a salted cracker or chip if he is not too weak.

What you really need to do is take him to a vet. While you find one keep him warm, hydrated, and clean.

Another option is some glucose in his milk or water for energy. Just test the temp on your wrist like you do an infant to make sure the milk is not too hot. You can use whole milk, formula, or even sweet milk.

Hope that this helps and good luck,
