My Mouse has a lump

Question
Hello, Last week I bought a new pet mouse to live in with a pair of females (she is female). She is about eight weeks old now and I am so frightened for her. She has a watery eye with a small amount of red discharge which seems to be slowly improving but just now when I picked her up I found a lump on her side just above her left leg it is balanced between her side and her lower abdomen. She is a bit over weight too I originally thought she was pregnant but now I am not so sure.

She is eating rather a lot, drinking, running on the wheel (which she is improving at) running around and sleeping a lot, my other two mice like her a lot and I am so worried.

The lump doesn't appear to be bothering her any only she is slightly difficult because she is still new, young and of course mice are a bit silly when being handled sometimes.

I have four other mice all of which are older (two are her older brothers) and none of them have a watery eye or lumps. She isn't hot or anything.

What could this be? cancerous tumour, abscess, babies?
The lump moves about when pressed on like a pea under the skin it doesn't feel like its attached to much and can be noticed when she moves in a certain way. I have only just noticed this tonight.

Please help me I am so frightened?!

Answer
Dear Leanne,

Oh that's so sad that you got a sick mouse. It is good that she is eating, drinking, and running in the wheel.

The very best thing to do is to go to the vet.

In the following post I discussed a mouse with a lump, and the difference between a tumor and an abscess.

If it were my mouse and I couldn't afford the vet, I would treat the eye with saline solution on a Q-tip, and I would give the mouse Tetracycline,

I hope she gets better.
