Help

Hi there,

We have recently purchased two mice a few weeks back...they were both very lively active characters. cages cleaned daily and fresh bedding.

Within the past week one of the mice started to develop a crusting around one of his eyes. We took a visit to the vets who supplied us with eyes drops...a few days back we noticed he was dragging one of his hind legs. I put it down to injury as he has a ball to run around in. He hasn't been in the ball since and it appears that the other hind leg is becoming weak. I have started to hand feed him.. After coming back to him today. I began feeding him as normal...it now appears that he tenses up for a few seconds and then goes back to the food I'm trying to hand feed him with... He is very small and was to he was a youngster by the pet shop.... He was such an active little male but now he seems lethargic.... He's not the mouse he was a few days back. He still grooms his face and eats rice crispies happily, apart from this tensing...

Please help!

Dear Leona,

I am afraid I don't know more than the vet in this case, other than to say that an eye infection is not related to paralysis; and this sounds neurological. If so, it can only get worse. :(

I also apologize a million times over for no answer. I have been involved in a family medical emergency.

My best wishes to the little guy, hoping he still had quality of life ahead of him.
