Question
I'm in the process of designing a new cage for my iggy.  what type of material should I make the top?  I know mesh to keep him from getting burned by the lights but I also need to have the top enclosed to keep the heat in.  I dont know what to use that can withstand the heat from the lights.  Any suggestions?

Thanks

Answer
Hi Donna, to help with humidity and heat you can put the ventilation near the bottom of the cage (heat rises) But then you have the troublesome factor of the lights. Any metal mesh will be fine, some people make the top wood and then cut out the shape of the lights and put metal mesh in that area only, but if you are doing this then you will want to add more ventilation near the bottom.

So take a peice of wood and cut it to fit the top of the cage, put your lights on the wood and trace them, leaving a half an inch all around the light.

Then cut along your traced line and install metal mesh to that cut out area. You can place your lights on there without any problems.

Hope that helps
Good luck
