Iguana biting

Question
I have an 8 year old male iguana. I have recently moved into a house with 3 female iguanas (July of 2008). My male iguana stays in my room and is allowed to roam freely, he loves his sunny window but now does not allow me to enter the bedroom. My roommate believes it is because of mating issues. Saturday 2/28/09 he actually bit me, and yes it required antibiotics from a physician. He guards during daylight but after the sun goes down he is asleep. It seems as if he has become territorial and aggressive to me. My female roommate can handle him and enter the room at any time and he  does not react. Could it be a situation of jealousy over the roommate? How do we eliminate this behavior? Could it be a seasonal behavior?

Answer
It is most likely seasonal....breeding behaviour
Generally it won't be jealousy and when in breeding season, some males will be after one person, and be loving of another.
Even though he doesn't see the females, he can smell them and if the person handling the girls also handles the male , he KNOWS there are girls in the house.  When iguanas breed, the male bites onto the females neck to be able to hold her in place or to hang on if she decides to run.
You are a male...in your male igs mind...you are competition for him with the girls.  Your room mate(female) is just another one of the male igs "harem"  You all need to be careful with the male as they can do severe damage to humans when in breeding mode..
Hopefully, he comes out of it soon as breeding season SHOULD be coming to an end.
You really cannot eliminate it...they are, for all intents and purposes, wild animals.
