Question
I have a young iguana maybe.a year old? Just hit ttwo feet in leagth. There's two questions I would like ask first is about pooping. It poops maybe three times a day at most but I know it poops twice a day and was wondering if that's normal? And when poops in morning it poops out ALOT. My other questions is during bath time and only during this time while in the water it scratches itself? Or looks like it. I thought it was just spreading water but I'm not sure. Is it normal?

Answer
Hi Christopher,
If your ig eats a good amount of food, he will poop more.  If it isn't formed and is loose, you might want to have him checked for internal parasites to make sure that isn't what is causing all the "poops"...but, yes, it can also be normal for them to go that much in a day.   It sounds like your ig is digesting his food well throughout the night and is pooping the large amt in the morning.  Is he also pooping in the water?  That is their normal place to go to the bathroom for most igs that is.
He could just be splashing himself with the water or he may be feeling the water drops and is trying to chase it away  as it may feel like a bug or something crawling on him.  It is normal for them to scratch at it like that.  Mine do it when I spray the water on them.
If your ig doesn't seem to be gaining weight/growing, or if the poop is loose or becomes loose, then I would get him checked by a vet (fecal check) to make sure there isn't internal parasites.

I love the fact that you have noticed those things with your iguana...it shows that you really do pay attention to your pet!!!
