Red Bumps

Question

Him about 4 months ago
I've noticed that my iguana has a red bump on his toe, at first I thought it was food so I tried to rub it off, it wouldn't, so i gave him a warm bath, still nothing. His toes also have a black ring around them. Although Iam taking him to the vet this week, I still don't understand if these are an emergency or not. I also thought it was reaction to my bird being sick (he had to go to the emergency vet) because we share a room, or if I was doing something wrong. I have a picture or so, so that you can see about how old he is.

Answer
Delilah,

Bumps, scratches, cuts, etc. are common injuries for iguanas and come and go quite frequently as iguanas climb, grow, jump, etc. I, honestly, have never considered any of these things to be emergencies unelss they persist over an extended period of time or if the iguana is displaying changes in his/her appetite, behavior, temperament, color, energy levels, etc. It is hard to say what this could be a result of and I cannot truly understand the magnitude of it without a picture or more information regarding his lifestyle, diet, lighting, ambient temperatures in his terrarium, etc. For something like this, I would just suggest monitoring it and possibly applying a neosporin-type ointment. It may be helpful for you to send a picture to me for further consideration if you feel I am dismissing it prematurely. Typical skin irritations are fungal infections, burns, mite infestations, cuts, scrapes, etc. If you had already gone to the vet for this and have any questions about the diagnosis or treatment, please follow up with me. Also, if it doesn't go away in several weeks, please follow up as well. Marlee is very cute and very young, I hope he is doing better.
