Question
Hello!

I have a five year old female iguana, who is very sweet and mellow, however her claws are very long, can you purchase cutters and clip them?  Thank you!  Margie

Answer
Hi Margie,
You don't have to purchase special clippers for doing their nails.  I use human toe nail clippers. You can also use ones for a cat or bird.  Lots of people are using dremels(grinder) which I am able to use on one of mine but the other two don't like the noise. Also, the pedi paws for dogs works well.  With the pedi Paws one, you hav to remove the plastic shield on it to allow the igs claw to get to the wheel.
If the nails have never been cut, you have to be careful you don't cut into the quick.  That's the vein that is in the claw. If you happen to clip too short, it will bleed.  Be sure to have some quik stop on hand, This is a power to stop bleeding.  Corn starch or a piece of white bread will also work. If you are unsure on how to do them, you can ask your vet to show you how to do them. If your ig is calm, the nicest and easiest tool to use is the pedi paws or a dremel tool.
