Question
QUESTION: Hi Again,
From the picture i sent u earlier do you think it is MBD. I bought him last monday from a pet store so i wouldnt be suprised if he was not taken care of that well. He tried to catch a meal worm today but was not fast enough( he wouldnt go after it if i was in the room). I have researched MBD and it seems like that is the cause, what can i do to help him. I really have grown attached already( i'm a sucker for injured animal). Anything is appreciated.

Thanks So Much FOr Your Help

ANSWER: Hi Austin,
Sorry, I missed the picture earlier!!!  With "AllExperts" new format, I can't see all the screen at once...
As to the picture...its tough to tell, but....something does not look right with him. Does he have a twist and a drop where his tail connects to his body? He looks like he is hump backed. I would get him on a good calcium that contains no phosphrous..if you are able to I would ask a vet to give you some prescription liquid calcium as it is much stronger.  A vet can x ray to see what the bone structure is and if it is indeed MBD.
As I said previous, be sure to feed your insects well before feeding them to your leos.  Also, if he has trouble with crickets, you can break the hind legs on them so that they cannot jump. The good thing about MBD, if it is caught early, it can be corrected, many times completely, it can take some time though.
Even though leos do not require UVB, it might be a good idea to supply him with some form of uvb.  Even taking him outside to a shaded area(no direct sun, but filtered through leaves) the real uvb from the sun will help him.  Just be sure to not put him in any direct sun as his eyes nor his skin can handle bright/hot direct sun.  If you can do this for even 10-15 minutes every day or every other day will help.  Again, I do suggest a vet visit so that you can have MBD confirmed via x rays and also for a prescription strength calcium.  Also, its tough to tell but, he does look like he may be getting ready to shed.

QUESTION: I just went to my house and to check on him and the skin is starting to peel off of his black legs. Do you think that he is just having trouble shedding and if so is there anyway i can assist him.

Thanks

Answer
Hi Austin,
As per the care sheet, the humid hide is vital to their shedding.  You can also give him a shallow bath in warm water..water no deeper than his elbows when he is laying flat.  Never leave him unattended.  You can also mist him with warm water.  I suggest misting when he is not in his tank as to prevent the tank from becoming too wet.  A light misting while in the tank is fine.As to if it can be causing the odd movements, once he sheds you should be able to see if that was the cause of the odd walking. Of course if his movements don't change after shedding, then that wasn't the cause.
