Question

kiwi's bump
please help my iggy has a large bump on the side of her face i will send a photo please help me. It may be a puncture wound from her cage.

Answer
Tyler,

Indeed, this is not good. It does appear to be a localized infection. You undoubtedly need to seek antibiotics from a veterinarian. If you don't have a vet in your area that sees reptiles, ask if they can prescribe the antibiotic baytril by weighing the animal and dispensing the dosage in the same manner as they would for a cat or dog.

I wonder if the bump is soft and fluid-filled or hard. If it is hard, it may be an abscess and would have to be removed. If it is soft and fluid-filled it may need to be extracted via syringe or drained somehow. There really isn't anything you can do without getting proper vet attention to this iguana.

If I saw something like this on one of my iguanas, I would take him/her in immediately because I do not think there is anything we can do for situations like this on our own.

In the mean-time, try to keep it clean by flushing the punctured/open area with a betadine/saline mixture. You can buy betadine and saline wash at drug stores. Mix them and flush the wound to keep it clean.
