Plants in cage

Question
I am going to build a larger cage for my baby iguana Zues (his body is 4 inches long). It will be 4 ft long by 3 ft deep and 6 ft high. (I will eventually make it longer). I want to put a live plant in the cage but I'm not sure which plants are ok and which aren't because I don't want him to get sick if he decides to nibble on the leaves. He gets at least 3-4 types of greens a day (usually collard, mustard, turnip and dandelion greens) one type of fruit and a few different types of veggies.  Do you know what plants would be safe? Thanks for all the help!

Answer
Hi Jessica,
Sounds like you are doing well with your iguana!!!!    Do be sure that you are using a proper source of uvb for your ig as there are many, many brands and types out there that are not correct or safe for an ig.  If you want more info on this, let me know.
As to plants...  Iguanas destroy live plants pretty fast.  Two of the tree type plants that can hold up for a bit to a small iguana are the fig tree and the hibiscus plant or bush.  Both are safe if they do choose to eat it. For a hanging plant, spider plants and wandering jew are safe.
Its best to have a few plants so that you can switch them out often so your little green monster doesn't destroy one completely and the one that is removed can have a change to grow and recover from the iguana abuse!!!  They do make fake trees that work well and can take a bit more abuse.
