Question
My guinea pig of about 2 years old was forced to miscarry 2 days ago.The reason for the miscarriage was forcible mating by her cage mate.I found 2 futuses in the cage and 2 placentas,as well as clotting. She is still bleeding lightly sporadically. She is making effort to eat,but she has not drank from her water bottle.I am giving her water with pedialite from a dropper every hour or so.My question is how long will she continue to bleed or spot, and when will she start drinking water again

Answer
It could probably be a few more days. You are doing a good thing by giving her water with pedialite. This will help her get vital nourishments she needs. The bleeding and not feeling well could take days and maybe a week because of the stress and her body trying to heal. Have you talked to a small animals vet to see if there anything else that may need to be done? Personally that's your best bet and I would actually try to hand feed her a little bit if she's not eating a lot. If you see her health declining after a week I'd certainly contact a vet to make sure she had a full abortion and she's not sick from the miscarriage.
