Pregnant and Piggis

Question
I just found out that I am 5 weeks pregnant. I have 2 piggies and I love them dearly but I am worried about them being around during my pregnancy. Is there any reason why I shouldn't have them in my home? I know I am not supposed to clean cat litter boxes, but is it the same for guinea pig cages? I really can't stand the thought of giving them up, I can't. And my husband is getting ready to deploy and wont be back until after the baby is born.

Answer
Hello Jen,
Congrats on being pregnant, I do know that if you are pregnant you should stay away from rats, mice, guiena pigs, hamsters and any other type of rodent. Even though the risk of getting LVCM is low with pet animals and is generally caused by wild animals it's still better to be safe than sorry. Is there a friend that could clean the cage and take care of the piggies for you? It's better to be safe than sorry for your babies sake.
