Question
ok i'll do that.  Is it also possible that he could've just been resting or fell asleep with his eyes open?  i'm just wondering because a little bit after i sent the question he got up, ate some food and drank some water, and then rolled onto his back and took a nap.

Hi,

I just got a hamster last week as a gift from my friend and i don't know if sometings wrong.  Right now its 10:34pm and he's lieing on his stomach with his eyes seemingly half shut.  From the look at it he looks depressed.  Now normally at this time he's running on his wheel constantly but he did this last night also for like an hour or two before he got on the wheel.  He's been eating and drinking fine though.   I've also been feeding him some carrots every few days (Which he seems to really like).

I just want to know if somethings wrong or if he's just somewhat tired and this is his way of saying "LET ME SLEEP!"

thx

Hi Steve,

It sounds like your hamster is lethargic.  Lethargy is a sign that your hamster may be sick.  (With no other symptoms, it's impossible for me to know what kind of sickness he has.)  If he is still lethargic tomorrow, then you should consult a vet.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.

Answer
Hi Steve,

Yes, it's possible he was just resting.  (Hamsters typically don't fall asleep with their eyes open, though.)  Just keep your eyes open for any symptoms of sickness besides lethargy, such as a runny nose, wet bottom, or stiff movements.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.
