how to disinfect a cage

Question
I keep reading to clean and disinfect the hamsters cage once a week.  I can't find any information about how to do that.  I   am soaking the hamsters cage and accessories in the bath tub with about 4" of water and 1 cup of clorox.  How long do I leave it in there?  Then will re-wash with dishwashing liquid.  Is there a better way? We may have had a hamster with wet tail and want to prevent that from happening again.

Answer
To be honest, a cage really only needs to be disinfected between when your hamster dies and when you get a new one. Ive never disinfected durring cleanings, and all my hamsters have lived 2 years. I feel like you can never fully wash out the detergent or bleach used to clean with. It is usually a few Tablespoons of bleach into a large amount of liquid. Less is always better. Wet tail is more caused by feeding too much fresh food. If you think you are feeding too much of this, Only feed them fresh greens every other week or so. This is what I do, and ive NEVER had a hamster suffer wet tail.
