Dear Kelly,
Remember my hamster Frank? Well, throughout the past week in a half I became very close to her and she did with me too. In the mornings I would go into my computer room and go on the computer. After a while I would be on, Frnk would come out. Wehnever I would put my hand into her cage she would crawl in my palm and I'd take her out to play. Since I seperated her and Joe she was lonely so I payed extra attention to her. She loved to sit on my shoulders and run around on my desk. Well this morning was not the same. I had been in my room for about 2 hours and she did not come out. I knew something was not right. I decided to open the cover to the cage and lift the lid where a hamster can build a nest. When I did she came out and crawled into my palm. I said to myself You look very thin Frank. Once I looked down I saw this little pink hairless pup. I was in shock!! I put Frank in back gently, and closed her cage. If she is so attatched to me is there a chance she won't harm her pup, or pups? I am very happy for her, but I am sad because in 3 days I am going to Virginia. But it is not too bad because I am not supposed to touch the pups for atleast 2 weeks.

Hi Shelby,

Congratulations on being a new mother :)

You can handle Frank a bit - not often or for long, though, because she'll be anxious to get back to her pups.  Just make sure that you don't touch the babies.  I know you're close to her, but there is still a chance that if she smelled a human on her pups, she could reject them.

Have a great day!

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.

I did not know that Frank would give birth this soon and I did not get the wheel out. I don't want to disturb them by moving the cage. What can I do?

Answer
Hi Shelby,

The safety of the babies is the number-one concern - Can you remove the wheel without moving the cage?  If you still have to move the cage, do so very slowly, without disturbing the babies.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.
