hamster is ill

Hi i have a hamster, i dont know what kind but i think it may be sick. about 3 days ago i noticed that my hamster was sleeping all day and not trying to get out like he always does. and today i saw him walking around. while he was walking he would shake and stagger and fall occasionaly. at first i thought he was dehydrated so i gave him water. and later tonight it got worse.  i woke him up to give him more water but when he got to the water he would look at the water and start shaking his head violently and missed the water straw. i dont know if its a straw but water comes out of it at the bottom.  so then i thought he may be sick and cold.  so i gave him some warm bedding and now im writing this. can you please tell me what may be wrong with him. i forgot to mention i got him from petsmart in early february and they said he was about 3-4 months old. so please tell me what may be wrong with him im very worried.

  First, it is very normal for hamsters to sleep during the day. They usually only come out during the day to get a drink, get food or go to the bathroom. They are more active at night.
  It sounds like your hamster may be having seizures. There really isn't anything that can be done for this. You may consult with a vet.
