Question
hi,
i bought a little Syrian about a week ago and i have never had one before. Hes very cute and is a little bit shy. but the other day i came to put his new food in and he bared his teeth. i just want to know, is this a threat or is he saying something else? and will he always think of me as a threat?
thanks

Answer
Hi Nicole,
it sounds like your hamster was showing that he's the boss in his cage and you're someone he doesn't want in his cage. It's a normal threat that many hamsters will do. He's a fiesty one, which I do like in hamsters. He may nip at you if you place your hand in the cage, I know mine will nip at me because he doesn't want me in his cage. You will just have to get him to trust you. Sometimes I will give seed treats through the bars and that really makes them come up to you a lot, until they figure out that you aren't going to give them anymore seeds :)
