Babies and more babies.....

Hi Charlotte,
I got 2 gerbils for a gift and the pet store told us they were male and male. They were very wrong. My female is still having babies and is on her 6th litter. I have seperated the male and female for the time being but I still have alot of gerbils in my room. I have mom and her 12 day olds. (she had 7 this time) I still have 2 females from the last litter that are now 6 weeks old and the male. I need to get rid of my 6 week olds. I have advertised and called pets stores everywhere, but they are all too full of gerbils and no one has called to claim the females. I have put up ads in a couple stores and alot online. Do you have anymore suggestions of how I could get rid of them?

Oh dear you do have a problem. What ever you do keep the male separarte from the female. If i was you i would go back to the pet shop who sold them to you in the first place and demand they help you out. It is their mistake and you are trying to do your best and what is right. They should either take them off your hands and sell them when they can, or offer to give you more housing/food/bedding for free and try to help you sell them on. I know from working in a pet store that if you are firm with them they will have to listen, as otherwise you can put bad word out about them and damage their reputation. You need to demand to talk to the manager and not elave until something has been done to help you as otherwise you will be stuck with millions of gerbils for a long time!!
