I lost my hamster!

Question
I lost my hamster today and can't find him anywhere. The bucket trick wouldn't work, because he can't really climb stairs, and he doesn't respond to treats. And the worst part is... I lost him at my grandmother's and she has a dog. What should I do?

Answer
Finding a lost hamster is no easy task, and there is no quick solve for the problem either. I would not stop looking until you find him. Look in places you wouldn't think either like in shoes, purses, coat pockets, drawers, hamsters show up in odd places. They are drawn to small dark areas most, if your grandmother has any holes in her walls or woodwork, your chances of finding him by looking can be very hard. The hamster will instinctively try to find food and water, so even if he does not like to climb, he will try to get the food so long as nothing else is available. If your grandmother leaves food and water out for the dog, have her remove it. The dog may try to harm the hamster, all you can do is leave the dog locked up to prevent this. You can try other non harming animal traps, ones that the animal can enter and cannot get back out of. You may be able to find some at a hardware store. If possible close all the doors in the house, leave a little bit of food in each room, and wait overnight, whichever room the food has disappeared from, you know the hamster is inside, provided there is no way out of the room but through the door. Just keep looking, leave no corner unturned.
