Fighting Gerbils?

Question
Hi,

I have two gerbils, Lily and Sammie. They are both female and about 1 and 1/2 years old. Lily is more outgoing and curious and is, in my opinion, dominate over Sammie.

I recently observed red on Sammie's nose. It looked like blood to me, but I know that a gerbil's mucus is also red, and so I know that it's a possibility that she has a cold.

I don't want to have to separate my gerbils if I don't have to because I'm afraid they'll be incredibly lonely living alone. Is it safe to leave them together?

Thanks
Shelly

Answer
Dear Shelly, Since I don't have a picture of it, I'll have to do my best without one, unless in a follow-up you could send me one. If you don't have any cardboard in the cage for them to chew on, It may be a sore from shewing on cage bars. I have one gerbil that chews on EVERYTHING!! I will never dare let Puff (the gerbil I'm  talking about) climb into my shirt sleeve like the other one, Powder (Puff's sister, who just sleeps in there. If you don't have cardboard in make sure they have it at all times. If the sore doesn't go away after a few weeks, Follow-Up and I'll try to help more.
