Hamster sounds?

Question
Do hamsters make noises at all?  I have had my hamster for a few months now and have never heard even a squeak from him.

I came home one evening to find him ice cold and sleeping in the strangest of place, everywhere except in his nest.  I worked out that my mice had attacked him in my absence and he was very traumatized by this.  Was a bit worried the first day but with a lot of TLC he was back to normal in no time.

A week later my male mouse got out of his cage and I saw him attacking the hamster again.  But I was very surprized that the hamster made no sounds.  Mice squeak when they squabble amongst themselves and I expected the hamster to do something similar.

I have quit4e a few mice but this is my first hamster and dont really know too much about their behaviour.

The only noise that comes from his area is his wheel squeaking :)

Answer
Hi Sandra

Hamsters do make noises although some more than others.  They can squeal if they are really frightened, others squeak as though they are chatting and they can even snore.  I've had some very vocal hamsters, but others who haven't made a single sound all their life.

Is there any way you can protect your hamster from your mice?  It is a worry that they can get out of their cage and attack him.  Next time you may not be as lucky and he could end up with serious bites and needing a trip to the vet.
