Male Hamster

Question
Hi there
We've just bought a male hamster 10-12 weeks old - we had a female before - and have noticed his bottom looks a little swollen either side of his tail. Is it just his scrotum ? Will it always stay like this or should we expect it to get smaller? Is it just normal for a male? He seems to poo OK and be happy.

Also, what is the best way to get hamster to pooh/wee in areas of the cage - ideally pots. Last one was happy to wee in a pot which made cleaning out so much easier but always pooed in her nest. Any tips to try this time? Many thanks for any help!

Answer
Your correct, this is simply your male's testicles, and they can vary in size from day to day. Hamsters naturally like to use one corner of their cage for their potty, and this is where store bought hamster potties work. There is no way to actually make the hamster use it, it's just luck if your hamster uses one corner for the potty, and if they do just stick the pot in that corner. My hamster doesn't use one corner, and just potties where he sleeps, so corner potties for him would never work.
