Question
Hi, I'm hoping to add a serval kitten to our family soon and was wondering if you had an opinion about having the kitten neutered, and at what age? I was also wondering if you had any serval breeders you could reccomend. thanks for your time and any help you can give.

Answer
Have the little guy neutered - definitely.  You can do this at around six months of age, or earlier at a vet's recommendation.  I urge you to also de-claw all four feet for everyone's safety.  I DO NOT condone de-clawing domestic cats EVER, but if you do decide to adopt a serval please consider de-clawing all four paws.  While servals are mostly lovable and playful, they *do* throw tantrums.  And better to get batted at with a soft paw then get a face-full of claw.

While I can not refer you to a breeder, I hope that you find a wonderful, healthy ball of fuzz to add to your family.

ATTENTION READERS: I do not in any way suggest, condone, or encourage anyone to get a wild animal as a pet.  Servals are not good pets, nor are most wild animals.  Even with intensive research you may not know what you are getting into.  Only a very experienced person should consider wild animals as pets - and even then it can be a crapshoot.
