Question
Hello ,

We just got our first ferret and its a female around 9 to 10 weeks old.

At the moment we have a problem with her biting hands and fingers she wont let go and it hurts a lot its getting worse from the moment we got her. (litter train is in progress)

We have done some research and found that after a ferret bites you can scruff them but this don't seems to work maybe i got the wrong spot.

i saw a video of how is done in a mature ferret but i tried that and mine bite even more.

As well i can not find ferret treats in melbourne, Australia so what other treats i can give her when she behaves?

Please help.

sorry for the English if its to bad.

Answer
At that young, of course she is going to bite!  Just like puppies, baby ferrets explore the world with their teeth.  At this age, time-outs and scruffing probably won't work.  The best solution is two-fold.  First, try not to let her get a-hold of you in a place she can bite.  Don't pick her up until she is tired and ready to be handled - she is probably excited and worked-up when she gets time out of the cage, so wait a while.  Second, when she does bite, don't scold her but re-direct her to bite on something else, like a Kong.
