My ferret suddenly died.

Question
My ferret just died about an hour ago. She wasn't very old. 2-4 years I'd say. We got her from a friend who rescued her. Her first owners were very mean to her and scarred her face a little because of lighting fire to it. She's been a great little girl the last few months we've had her besides being a bit aggressive towards me. Anyways, we let all 4 of our ferrets out to play a bit ago, and right before I was going to put them up she was hiding and let me pick up her which was unusual cause she would usually bite me if I tried picking her up. She was having trouble breathing so I tried giving her some sort of cpr but it didn't help.

I just would like to know how she could have died. She's been her normal self the last few days, and she was just playing not 5 minutes before all of this happened. I hope you can give me some sort of closure to this...I'd just feel better if I knew how she died.

Answer
I am very sorry for your loss.

Ferrets are very good at hiding illnesses until it is too late to save them. Many things could have caused her to pass away the only way to tell would be to have a necropsy done by a vet but that may not give a definitive answer.

It is hard to lose pets especially young one's.

I'm sorry I cannot provide the closure you seek.
