Biting Jill

Question

Hello,
I got a Jill from a shelter a month ago.  She is now six months.  After a week and a half of play time with my boy Odin (neutered) she moved herself into his cage and they have been happy ever since.  The problem is her biting, i use gloves, i play with her, but out of nowhere she will sometimes latch onto me (or a toy) with her teeth and not let go.  I've tried not doing anything, i've tried swinging her around, scruffing her, sticking her under a tap of cold water, applying slight pressure to her jaw, using treats to distract her, telling her 'NO' - but the girl just won't let go till she's good and ready (and her victim rather sore.

She is being spayed in a few days, might this calm her down?  How can I train her to let go?

Answer
I am sure it is a mix of under-socialization and probably hormones.  After she is spayed, give her a chance to settle down.  Then, the tried and true process of building experience and trust in time.  I wouldn't play with her in a way that causes her to bite - play nice and no rough housing.  Let her bite toys and stay away from punishment.  The goal is for her to learn that hands are fun and friendly.  Offer tasty treats from your hands.
