Deppressed ferret

Question
Dear Cassie,
I have a ferret named Coda that has no age. I bought him and another little guy who's 2 years old named Ricky. Actually Ricky died yesterday at the age of 2 from intestinal blockage and every vet was closed on new years day. Coda was with Ricky growing up and I needed to know some syptoms of deppresion in ferret. He does have another friend Buddy but Buddy is younger than Coda and Buddy acts like Coda's mom. Coda still seems sad and I wanted to know if it was deppression.
Thanks,
Giana

Answer
Sorry about your loss it is always hard to lose a pet especially one who died young.

Having another buddy will help a lot while Ricky grieves.

Mostly watch his eating make sure he is eating enough since some ferrets stop eating causing serious medical issues. The death of a ferret buddy can also bring out illnesses the remaining ferret had but it wasn't showing (this has been debated but the stress can potentially heighten any existing problems).

Give them more playtime and cuddle time and just make sure he is eating. He will probably seem off and not be as enthusiastic.
