Question
Hello..

I have a few concerns..
In june, i had to put my very first ferret, karat, to sleep due to an odd case of lymphoma. Tore my heart apart. She was only 4 1/2.
During the time shes been gone, ive bonded with my other ferret, maurice, who we had got for karat about a year ago, so hes just a little over that.. and a huge cuddle bug.

Well.. sunday.. my boyfriend bought me a little girl. im guessing about 4-6 months old? Shes beautiful and sweet and of course curious as can be, we named her gerdy. But shes so much more different than karat!
I like her, but at the same time im having mixed feelings and i know its only been a couple of days, i shouldnt judge.

Karat was my first ferret ever, she was just that pet you just knew it was ment to be? she was about 4months when i got her and and i was clueless.. but she bonded with me so quickly. She was so insanly smart and sweet as could be. Never once tried to bite me or anyone.. she let me bathe her, brush her teeth, nails, everything, always gave me kisses, followed me everywhere i went and even responded to her name every time (thanks to raisins of course) i guess you could say she was a rare find! it really wrecked me when i had to let her go.. cause she really was everything to me. She was perfect.

Every since we got gerdy, ive scared of her not bonding with me cause she is so different than karat.. ive been having major karat withdrawals.
Shes a bit of a nipper.. only during play, but shes also seems to be a little skittish?
Tough part is.. i have nothing to reward her on. She doesnt like raisins, she doesnt like any of maurice's treats. I honestly dont know what she likes? Raisins were the first thing i tried with karat and she loved them. Maurice took a few trys and than we found his fav.

I know im not replacing karat, but is it normal to feel that way? Are there any suggestions to do for gerdy?

Thank you,
        Kimberly

Answer
I am not sure how much I can help you since it seems more like grief rather than a behavior issue.  I do think you will find something to use as a treat for the new ferret although, as obligate carnivores, you should stay away from anything that isn't meat.  Be patient and enjoy the ferrets you have.
