Ferrets???

Question
Hi, my name is Ashley, and i have been wanting to get a ferret for a long time now. but i had some questions first.
1) i have a cat, he loves other animals and loves to play, will a ferret be a problem.
2) also, is PetLand a good place to get ferrets?
3) in total, how much money would everything cost, including: two ferrets,(because i will probably get two if i get them) food, accessories, a cage, toys, and everything else a ferret would need?
4) last, can you give me an idea of what i should get, like food what kinds of accessories, and everything else they need. Oh, and what type of food should i get.

and even if my question with the cats turns out to not getting ferrets, can you still answer the other questions, because my friend is getting two girl ferrets next month.!!

Thanks a bunch for all the help!!!♥♥♥♥

Answer

Depends on the cat and the ferret.  they tend to get along alright, but I would never leave them unsupervised until you know for sure.

2) also, is PetLand a good place to get ferrets?
I always recommend getting them from a rescue instead of a pet store.  There are lots of great ferrets out there looking for a new home.

3) in total, how much money would everything cost, including: two ferrets,(because i will probably get two if i get them) food, accessories, a cage, toys, and everything else a ferret would need?
I really don't know.  Depends on where you purchase and the quality of supplies.  If you get the ferret from a shelter then you may be a able to get a cage for a better price.  I have never purchased from a pet store so I don't really know what they cost.

4) last, can you give me an idea of what i should get, like food what kinds of accessories, and everything else they need. Oh, and what type of food should i get.
Start with the book Ferrets for Dummies by Kim Schilling.  It is a great resource for all ferret owners and a MUST read before taking this step.  Basically, the biggest cage possible, secure water and food dishes, litter boxes and ferret safe litter, nail clippers, toothbrush, toothpaste, Ferretone, and really the list goes on and on.  the book will help.  I recommend Totally Ferrets Venison diet and Pretty Pets Natural Gold for food.

It sounds like you have a lot of very basic questions and ferrets are a challenging pet so I suggest you research as much as possible before the purchase.  They are not cheap when cared for well - food and vet costs can be quite high.  They are also quite time consuming.
