Question
QUESTION: Hello, I have a 4 month old ferret, he's been sick a week tomorrow.  He started off with fever, sneezing, and just laying around. I took him to the vet last Saturday, and they said upper respiratory infection. So they put him on baytril. Since then, fevers have stopped,  still sneezing (and nasal drainage is clear, somewhat eating and drinking good. But, lethargic, laying around, can hardly wake up (except to eat and drink, which is about 6 x's a day) but after he eats n drinks, he looks drunk and out of it. I don't know what else to do.  I feel so bad for him. I called the vet, and of course, they tell u to bring him back, but the 1st visit bout broke me. Any suggestions?  Or what it could be?  Thank you for your time.

ANSWER: Dear Angie,
I am so sorry, but your little furry friend needs to go back to the vet.  Don't be afraid to tell them that finances are a real strain.  But it's so much better to be safe than sorry.  Meanwhile, you can offer him some Gerber Ham & Gravy baby food.  Just a teaspoon full will do.  This may give him a little energy boost while the medication works.

These little guys catch cold so easily.  Make sure he is dry and warm and has plenty of fresh water.

Keep me posted as I am concerned for both of you.

Warm Regards
Janet

QUESTION: Ty for the response,  I called the vet, they can't work with me.  I got some baby food ham, turkey, chicken, made some of the duck soup. He's still eating and drinking good, but not getting better. After he eats, it's the weirdest thing I've ever seen, he rubs his mouth on the ground or blanket, and just sits there, like a drunk with their head nodding in and out.  I've tried the corn syrup twice,  and that helped kind of,  but goes right back to just laying around.
N ty again for talking and the responding.

Answer
Angie, I can NOT  believe this.  Find another vet!!!  The only thing I can think of is that your little guy might have a tooth problem.  Something is definitely going on there.  And, it could be neurological.  Please let me know.  I can be reached at janetrussek@yahoo.com.
