-----Question-----
my ferret desse had surgery today for what we all thought was adrenal diease come to find out in wasnt that at all, the vet doc removed a mass from her that was no where by her glands and shipped it for testing, desse is only going on 3 yrs old next month and she has hair lose almost bald and lost weight thats why we thought it was adrenal diease,if its not that then what could it be cancer? is that why she is bald and weight lost? also will her hair grow back now that she had the surgery and the vet removed the mass she had?
-----Answer-----
I've had ferrets with Adrenal Disease that have lost all of their hair and their hair grew back without surgery.  It's a possibility that her hair may come back but it may not.  It's hard to say.  It's good that the mass was removed.  Insulinoma can cause hair loss sometimes too, but not always.  Ferrets are susceptible to cancer so that mass may be but hopefully your vet got it all.  Just feed her A/D that you would have to get from your vet or chicken baby food to try and get some weight back on her.  Surgery is hard on them so she may be tired and not wanting to do much for a few days.

Answer
Incision's aren't always straight.  It depends on where the vet has to go to get to what he's looking for.  I'd just be sure it doesn't get an infection.  It's probably a little red after surgery, but shouldn't have any drainage or anything like that.  Did your vet give you antibiotic?  They usually do after surgery.  It's perfectly normal for them to sleep after a surgery.  Try the warmed up baby food as I said in my other email.  She should do well.
