Question
i've had my ferret for a couple a weeks and he's about 16 weeks old. he's fairly well behaved except for one quite annoying habit. he chews on everything in his cage. the cage is 2x2 and is 48" tall. he chewed through two hammocks the first week i got him and now he'll randomly chew on his slide. i bought some chew treats by N-Bone but i'm not sure how good they are for him. he gets about 2 and a half to three hours of exercise a day and hen he does he doesnt chew on anything.(except my toes when i have socks on LOL) any tips to stop the chewing and are the chew treats bad?? thanks...

Answer
Well, you definitely need to get him a bigger cage, 2 feet by 2 feet is WAY too small for a ferret to be cooped up in all day. Should be at LEAST 3 by 4 feet, or even bigger. Chewing is a sign of boredom and that the size of the cage is getting to him emotionally. Ferrets don't need chew things that are for dogs or hamsters, those things are bad for them. If you give him ample space and plenty of time outside the cage, plus fun toys and comfortable bedding in his cage, the chewing should stop.
