Maybe pregnant lab 9 month old

My yellow lab is 9 months old and just went through her first heat and we think she might be pregnant. Is she too young? The father might be my choc lab these two have the same father, will this be a problem? What is the average size litter for labs?

Hi Molly. She is very young. It's kind of like a 12 or 13 year old human having a baby. If she is pregnant, and you decide to let her have them, then you need to keep in close contact with her vet to make sure everything goes smoothly. As far as them having the same father, inbreeding will bring out all of the good, and bad traits that the dogs carry. If there are any issues in the dogs' lines, you'll most likely see them. It can be a good tool, and set certain traits that is correct for the breed, but it will bring out the bad as well. Just be prepared for that. The average litter for a Lab is 7-8.
